Data recovery

Data recovery is the process of salvaging data from damaged, failed, corrupted, or inaccessible secondary storage media when it cannot be accessed normally. Often the data are being salvaged from storage media formats such as hard disk drives, storage tapes, CDs, DVDs, RAID, and other electronics. Recovery may be required due to physical damage to the storage device or logical damage to the file system that prevents it from being mounted by the host operating system. Although there is some confusion as to the term, data recovery can also be the process of retrieving and securing deleted information from a storage media for forensic purposes or spying.

This comprehensive cleaning includes all viruses.

Gfi Software asked:

As with any other year, in 2008 network and systems administrators will have to face challenges which will tax their ability to adequately protect corporate networks. Experience shows that maintaining and improving on security is never easy; hackers, malware creators, spammers, malicious insiders and other, mostly unpredictable, elements all add up to the factors which tend to give these network security professionals many a sleepless night.

Various 2008 threat predictions have already hit headlines. Some mention VOIP and virtualization , others mention malware evolution and Facebook widgets that will be used to distribute malware; However, facts and figures indicate that the challenges faced in 2008 will not stem from technology itself; for in its nature technology is a neutral element that can either be used in a good or in a bad way. The biggest threat for 2008 is the same threat to businesses that has been around for the last 200,000 years – the Human Being himself!. Human beings, their weaknesses, fallacies and inquisition can all be exploited to wreck havoc within organizations.

Human Overconfidence

History shows that we tend to rely too much on the claims which operating system vendors and business software vendors make. New systems sell themselves as being more secure and more fail-safe than their predecessors. While this is undoubtedly true, one must remember that at every release of each operating system and business software throughout the years vendors have all made the same claim, over and over again, year after year. This has never. However. deterred hackers and other malicious individuals from researching and executing attacks against newer systems.

A case in point is Microsoft Windows Vista, which by end 2007, will hit the 10% market share, with a projected 30% adoption rate expected by end 2008. Microsoft Windows Vista does not only equate to a new operating system, it also equates to a new user expierience. While this system is much more secure than its predecessors, its users are still the same as before, and therefore they are the path of least resistance to the average network environment exploit. Through social engineering, security features such as the new user access control can be easily circumvented, duping users in installing software which is insecure or tainted with malware.

Humans’ misplaced trust

Trust should be earned and not automatically afforded. Dangers to business do not only lie outside of the business perimeters; recent history shows that insider attacks to businesses cost as much, if not more, than attacks originating from the outside. Insiders have their own advantages for they have an intimate knowledge of your network and its inner workings. In 2008, an ever increasing proliferation of portable storage and communication devices (iPods, USB drives, USB WiFi cars, etc) will highly facilitate data theft, logic bombs and other forms of sabotage that can throw your business back to the Stone Age. Yet again, while it might be easy to put the blame on such devices it’s not these devices that are at fault; once again, technology is a neutral entity. The main fault here is the use made of such devices – banning them will simply not work because you simply cannot rely on voluntary compliance, supervision is too laborious, the devices can be easily concealed and you’ll just create dissent.

Human lack of knowledge

When it comes to network security, ignorance in neither bliss nor excuse. In 2008, a lack of basic security principles and a lack of knowledge in the trends that malware, spyware, spam and other malware are taking will greatly contribute to the downfall of network security. This most often is due to lack of time or resources to research security principles and trends; an issue that translates into a firefighting approach to network security: reacting to incidents after being hit.

This is, once again, a human issue. Malware does not evolve on its own, in a vacuum. The reason why malware evolves is greed – Hackers and other malicious individuals today create targeted attacks not to create havoc but for financial gain. Targeted exploits that attempt to address the inquisitive human nature to make them click on a tainted link will become more and more commonplace. This makes them much more dangerous than ever before, making the issue of lack of knowledge even more critical. Limiting human inquisitiveness through a blanket ban on access to resources will also backfire since it will create both dissent and boredom, all of which hamper productivity.

Human gullibility

Being gullible does not only make you the **** of jokes but also exposes you to myriad network security threats. In 2008, targeted email spam will continue in its evolution with newer and novel attempts to breach network defenses using social engineering. These will extend beyond email and attempt to, for example, compromise VOIP infrastructures through denial of service attacks, SIP vulnerabilities and Spit (Spam Over Internet Technology) attacks. In 2008, an increase in the number of attacks targeted at specific individuals or businesses is also expected, and it is highly plausible that the perpetrators of such attacks will use social engineering to gain access to confidential information that enables them to gain access to your systems.

As with malware, social engineering attempts at exploiting human gullibility evolve for financial gain. No one will be calling anyone up asking for passwords; more subtle methods such as targeted attacks on social networking sites (myspace, facebook, etc) where users are duped in exchanging personal information for virtual goods empower hackers and other malicious individuals to gain unauthorized access to networks.

Conclusion

In 2008, network and security administrators will have to wear more hats than ever before and employ all sorts of defenses against attacks directed at the human nature – overconfidence, trust, lack of knowledge and gullibility will all be decisive factors in how successful network security will be. More than ever before it will be a question of managing the risks that humans pose to businesses; for even if the risks humans pose are the same risks as before, the motivation behind attacks in 2008 is changing and becoming much more dangerous. The best way to defend infrastructures from potential threats is for administrators to implement methods to:

• Monitor the user’s activity 24 x 7 x 365

• Control access to network resources

• Safeguard all the business information

• Backup all communications to, from and within the business

• Enact technological barriers that permit device use according to a clear and defined policy.

• Train network resource users in both network security and information disclosure policies.

In 2008, systems administrators will have to find the fine balance that suits and encourages the human inquisitive nature - without becoming the dreaded medieval Inquisitors!

Arvind asked:

The registry cleaner software is the best effective and the easiest way to clean up the registry of the outdated and unwanted entries that unnecessarily clog up the registry and delay the system processes. Though you can manually edit the registry keys to remove the errors, it is not a practical way of cleaning the registry as it requires huge time to edit thousands of entries and besides there is a chance of error in manually modifying the registry values.

Why do we need to use the registry cleaner software?

As we use the computer the registry of the computer gets clogged up as new entries are generated in registry when we,

Add a new hardware

Remove a hardware component

Install software or program

Uninstall a program

Make changes to the system settings and so on.

As the new entries are created in the registry they remain in the registry along with the older entries that are of no use. Moreover, the empty spaces, fragmented entries, embedded keys further make the registry size heavier. With so many entries and heavier size of the file the operating system can not locate the required information. It makes the system sluggish and prone to different errors like System 32 errors, slow start up, increased response time for the programs and so on.

What does the Window registry cleaner do?

The Window registry cleaner is the software that cleans the registry errors and makes the registry organized. This is done by the software by scanning the registry and detecting the errors. The registry cleaner tool scans each and every registry key and removes the fragmented keys, traces of incomplete installations, blank spaces and most importantly the outdated entries that are of no use at all. By removing these unimportant entries and organizing the registry the software ensures that the system resources can the traced by the operating system much more promptly that will eventually make the system faster and more efficient.

How to get the best freeware registry cleaner?

There are many websites that are offering registry cleaner for free of cost to the users. All you have to do is select the best freeware registry cleaner so that you can get the maximum benefit from the software. To do that you need to first select a source that is authentic and offering reliable software solutions. Then you need to select the software according to the Windows version that you are using.

installing software
Eric Scott asked:

Autoresponder software is installed on your website by uploading the auto responder script to your site and by linking the ar script to the email account that goes along with that website. When you have a good email autoresponder installed on your website and its email account is included in the setup, you can then set up as many different named auto responders from that one ars control panel as many times as you want.

All of the autoresponders have their own signup forms and you can have the ar signup forms on as many different websites and webpages as you want. Each auto responder can have its own series of email messages to send out to its subscribers and email lists. Each time you set up a new ar it would just be done on the same website and email account but with a different ar name, such as; abc, 123, etc.

You can also set up new autoresponders on as many different websites and email accounts that you want to by installing the auto responder script onto those sites and then starting the rest of the ar setup for those sites. You can also have as many different named ars as you want on these websites.

After you sign in to the control panel for the autoresponder that is installed on one of your websites you can create as many new ars as you want to. On the control panel type in a name for each auto responder you’re going to set up and press submit. By repeating this step you can set up another new ar name. After you have set up as many email autoresponder names as you want, you would then just click on any of the ar names on the contol panel that you want to work on and then you’ll be on the admin control panel for that autoresponder name.

The admin control panel is where you set up the header for your email messages; from name, from email, the redirect site url, which is the next page shown after someone signs up to your signup form. There will be a choice for whether to show an unsubscribe link at the bottom of each outgoing email message so that your subscribers always have that option available to them. There is a link you can press that generates the code for the signup form that you copy and paste into your webpages html. The signup form is linked back to the autoreponder that you are working on and to the email account of the auto responder website. With some email autoresponder software you can also add a file as an attachment to each email message.

The messages are also set up on the auto responder admin control panel. You can have 1, 2, 3, or as many messages as you want in the email message series. Each autoresponder you set up can have it’s own series of messages to go out when someone signs up to one of your signup forms. This way you could have a different set of messages for each websites or webpages new signups and for all of the autoresponder lists. Each email message has its own setting so you can type in the number of days between it, the previous message, and the next message. After someone signs up to one of your signup forms that is on your website or webpage they will receive the first email message in the email message series.

There are two problems associated with autoresponder software. The initial cost can be expensive and the ar script can be complicated and difficult to install. The more extra features that the ar software has the more it will cost and the more complicated it will be to install and maintain. You can find a full featured ar software without a lot of extra features for under $20. You pay for it once and then you own it.

The email autoresponder software should be easy to install and easy to work with. It should come with a step by step installation and users guide. The control panel should be well laid out and easy to use. The auto responder should be able to be installed on as many websites and with as many ars on each of those sites as you want, so that each auto responder can send out a different series of email messages to its subscribers.

As you build your autoresponder lists from your signup forms you’ll be able to promote your online business and websites with opt-in email marketing and email campaigns.

installing software
Remy Na asked:

Hosted Software – A brief introduction

The enhancement in the field of technology has lately kept everything entangled towards the computer and the internet. Every function viewed in the computer is a result of installing software. Depending on your requirement of business, software is available. One has to make a slow and wise choice in buying the required software. There are traditional software and hosted software available. Going through the details of both the software will enrich your knowledge in selecting the appropriate software. Recently, the hosted software is in great demand.

Traditional software

Traditional software is software developed by the programmers suitable to various companies. The programmers write codes and this is then transformed into a CD that can be used to install the software. This CD is then reproduced and packaged at a manufacturing plant. Once the software package is complete it is shipped to several stores through a network of distribution centers. This software can be purchased at any store and can be installed in the computer. Ultimately, this software can be used with comfort. This is a typical type of software where you do not have to think about various steps. You have to buy each step and buying the software off the shelf is expensive. The traditional software is a conventional type of software with no distinct variations.

Hosted software

Hosted software also involves writing code for programmers. This is a little different. Hosted software is creating software and getting it directly installed onto a server. A server takes specific task such as running software or a website for you. Using software that is run based on the server is identical to using a website. So hosted software is software operated on a special server that can be used from your computer. You can understand this better, by acquiring knowledge on the working system of computer software. The software that you view and use is known as the User Interface. It is considered to be the driving force; in fact it represents the steering wheel and pedals of a car. Software also has many pedals serving the same function. The interface of the user will take your input and make use of the software’s data as well as logic to perform the work for you. For instance, if you type “2+4=” on the calculators user interface, the software applies its logic and data to prompt you the answer as 6.

Working of Software

The software you purchase from a store has both, the interface of the user and the logic and data running on your computer. The working system of the Hosted software is a little bit different. For instance when you use the internet, the user interface runs from your computer. In the hosted software, the user interface directly talks on the website instead of the data and logic of your computer. The information is kept safe in an encrypted form avoiding unwanted people from peeping at your data. In a nutshell, hosted software is used from the web browser and works like running software on your computer. Very soon noticing the benefits many companies may shift to hosted software.
